Löw’s Lineups Against Liechtenstein (28.3) & Wales (01.4)
Here are the lineups for the upcoming qualifiers.
Tor: René Adler (Bayer Leverkusen), Robert Enke (Hannover 96), Tim Wiese (Werder Bremen)
Abwehr: Andreas Beck (1899 Hoffenheim), Arne Friedrich (Hertha BSC), Andreas Hinkel (Celtic Glasgow), Philipp Lahm (FC Bayern), Per Mertesacker (Werder Bremen), Marcel Schäfer (Vfl Wolfsburg), Serdar Tasci (VfB Stuttgart), Heiko Westermann (FC Schalke 04)
Mittelfeld: Michael Ballack (FC Chelsea), Torsten Frings (Werder Bremen), Thomas Hitzlsperger (VfB Stuttgart), Marcell Jansen (Hamburger SV), Marko Marin (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Simon Rolfes (Bayer Leverkusen), Bastian Schweinsteiger (FC Bayern), Piotr Trochowski (Hamburger SV)
Angriff: Mario Gomez (VfB Stuttgart), Patrick Helmes (Bayer Leverkusen), Stefan Kießling (Bayer Leverkusen), Lukas Podolski (FC Bayern)
Podolski is back! Klose is injured!
Good to see Schäfer, Hinkel, and Beck back. Not too keen (in order of increasing disappointment) on Frings, Hitzlsperger, and especially Westermann given another chance to screw up. Now did Özil get sold to Turkey or did Jansen replace him? Actually Özil got called up to the U-21 and I guess Jansen deserves another shot after scoring a lot lately. At the very least he is no longer in defense, unlike Westermann who will almost certainly start and gift a goal away. I bet he’ll be exposed even against Liechtenstein. Surely we have someone else to use? Let’s see what happens.
What do you guys think? Löw expectations?
Let’s hope for 6 points and for our strikers, especially Gomez, to actually score a few.
Lineup Against Liechtenstein
Die deutsche Aufstellung: Enke – Beck, Mertesacker, Tasci, Lahm – Schweinsteiger, Ballack, Hitzlsperger, Jansen – Gomez, Podolski
Look at it this way, it could have had Westermann.

‘Good to see Schäfer, Hinkel, and Beck back.’
Word.
‘especially Gomez, to actually score a few.’
As a Stuttgart supporter Nick, if he really does score a few, I will start celebrating. It’s not that he does not know where is the net given he does so at club level. But it’s like, it’s just different for him when donning the national team’s colours. We do not need constant reminders how he did back at Euro 2008… To be honest, I always want to bite my fingernails whenever Gomez is playing for the national team.

And I forgot to add this.
The national team should be thankful that they have these two matches to redeem themselves after what happened in the previous two friendlies. I had never been angry at myself as a supporter until what happened last month against Norway. I thought the loss against England was a one-off but, I am still pissed off thinking about what happened last month.

Both Frings and Friedrich will miss both qualifiers due to injury. Sorry ladies, Friedrich as center is going to have to wait.

Okaaay.
Anyhow Nick, now even Rene Adler and Piotr Trochowski are carrying knocks.

Official news from the DFB. Enke will start in goal. Gomez and Podolski will start in attack. Löw plans to make no additional call-ups. Mertesacker, Trochowski, and Adler are recovering. Kießling is back in training. In other news Ballack is not causing trouble. The team is very fast. Rumors are that Löw might stay after 2010, despite his criticism of the Bundesliga.

Ideal line-up for me this game
Enke

Ideal line-up for me this game 3-5-2
Enke
Beck- Mertesacker- Westermann
Schweini- Rolfes- Ballack- Hitzlsperger- Trochowski
Patrick Helmes- Lukas Podolski

Rumours, Nick? I thought I read that Theo Zwanziger is intending on the Bundestrainer to stay beyond the next World Cup? Or maybe I am reading the wrong stuff, I don’t know.
Whatever it may be, I rather the national team qualify first. Then we can start talking about contract extensions…
