Liveblog: Germany vs Uruguay, Third Place Playoff

It’s time for one last hurrah for this young team. A hurrah that will have to do without some starting XI regulars…

Last minute updates and speculation from the Germany camp: Miroslav Klose had problems with his back following the Spain match, and it seems he didn’t recover in time. He will be replaced by Cacau. Maybe there is a chance to sub him in – even if it’s just for a PK. Otherwise he’ll have to be content with equaling Gerd Müller’s World Cup record – which is not too shabby. Lukas Podolski and Philipp Lahm are down with the flu. Jerome Boateng will switch to the right, while Marcell Jansen looks set to replace Podolski on the left. Bastian Schweinsteiger will captain the team. Meanwhile, this match will give some of the bench players a chance to play some minutes at this World Cup. Jörg Butt will replace Manuel Neuer and Dennis Aogo will play as left-back.
