Ballack’s October Return Ruled Out

Watching Michael Ballack limp off the pitch after 30 minutes in Bayer 04’s match against against Hannover on Saturday, it was hoped the damage done by a harsh challenge from Sergio Pinto wasn’t anything to be too concerned about. Today, further examination revealed that Ballack suffered a fractured tibia and will be out for up to six weeks.

The Germany captain has been fighting to regain his peak form and return to the National squad. This latest set-back has guaranteed he won’t be suiting up at least through the October qualifiers against Turkey and Kazakhstan, and adds one more hurdle along what Ballack admits has already been a difficult road.

I have always been a supporter of Ballack, but this latest injury might just be one setback too much. Maybe he should consider the Sweden or Italy friendly his retirement game as bitter as that is. For the record I think Germany would have been even stronger during the WM with Balllack.

Anyway I just can't see him stay injury free from now to Euro 2012. He might be able to recover his form, but he probably can't come close to his 2008 days. Also Khedira (who I still have doubts about) is on his way to becoming a starter for Real. It probably would be better for the N11 in the long run to develop the younger players.

Luke, i'm really glad you're covering the Nationalalelf as well… One more reason to cheer for the offside.. Just sad i'm not getting time to be a regular, cos my graduation exams are frying me.. lol
