Language Lesson

entourage [on-toor-ahzh] : (n) A group of people who assist or travel with an important or well-known person.

There is no doubt that when a person of notariety and flare steps off of a plane, people take notice. They clammor to get that picture or that signature. There are flash bulbs and droves of people who run to a particular area to get a glimpse. Sometimes, this person will travel with his own band of brothers. Generally it’s security or agents. Sometimes it’s an entourage that flocks to this person because of their character. In this case, it happens to be Jogi Loew and the German National Team. They descended upon Ascona today. After a 55 minute flight from Frankfurt and another 45 minutes added they arrived. Entourage in tow. Some 70 people travelled along with the team and their leader. Their entourage.

Among those traveling with the team were DFB President Dr. Theo Zwanziger and General Secretary Wolfgang Niersbach. They were greeted by a delegation of canton Tessin who gave them both an original swiss cowbell. The team took to their hotel in Lugano, Il Giardino, and were greeted by the director of the hotel and the manager of the sports center in Tenero.

It gets even better than that. Not only are presidents and managers happy to be part of the greeting committee for the national team, so were elementary school children who wore Germany tshirts and waved the Germany Flag along with fans, journalists and camera crews.

All players traveled together with the exception of Oliver Neuville as he hails from Locarno so he spent a day with his relatives in the area.

I’m going to sound like such a fangirl but god I love the way you write. You should pursue a career as a writer ASAP.

I don’t understand why my post says “Australia” when I’m in Hong Kong?

Harriet,
could it be because the politicilly somewhat obstinate Hongkong will soon be sold to Australia? :-)

My UEFA Euro Cup Guide magazine says “The suave-looking gentleman in charge of the Germany national team looks more like a movie star than a coach”. So true, so true.

Here’s hoping that the Germans would go out of Austria in a grand parade, celebration and all; grander than this one. (:

Intan, you just took the words out my mouth! :) There has been comparisons before that Loew looks like Tom Cruise.

This is Reuters’s impression of Loew (http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=reu-eurogermanycoach&prov=reuters&type=lgns)...

‘Loew is Germany’s 10th coach and still has a far lower profile than his extrovert predecessor—Bob Paisley to Klinsmann’s Bill Shankly, if you like, although the scarf-wearing German is a nattier dresser than either.’

I have to admit but don’t know since when, I also try to notice of what he is wearing on matchdays. ;) He really reminded me of a former Science teacher of mine (who is also a he) for some reason. Must be the wearing and the looks. But then I think Intan, what you found tops it all off. :D

Angela, how about this on Jogi. I found this description in the newspapers here today (Friday).

‘Good-looking coach has a reputation for being innovative and tactically astute.’

I almost incurred the wrath of my sister as I was reading that. There was one section in the papers about the coaches for Euro 2008 and Jogi’s description…got me chuckling. The good-looking part, that is. My sister was nearby and she asked me what was going on! :)
