Germany Roster for Turkey, Kazakhstan Qualifiers

Jogi Löw decided not to give in to the Mainz hype just yet and nominated a mostly unchanged roster for next week’s Euro 2012 Group A qualifiers against Turkey and Kazakhstan. Only surging Borussia Dortmund’s Kevin Grosskreutz is a new additon. Jerome Boateng steps back into the squad after missing the last two matches with injury; he takes the roster place of the injured Stefan Kiessling.

Goalkeepers:
Rene Adler (Bayer Leverkusen), Manuel Neuer (Schalke 04) Tim Wiese (Werder Bremen)

Defenders: Holger Badstuber (Bayern Munich), Jerome Boateng (Manchester City), Marcell Jansen (Hamburg SV), Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munich), Per Mertesacker (Werder Bremen), Sascha Riether (VfL Wolfsburg), Heiko Westermann (Hamburg SV)

Midfielders: Kevin Grosskreutz (Borussia Dortmund), Sami Khedira (Real Madrid), Toni Kroos (Bayern Munich), Marko Marin (Werder Bremen), Thomas Mueller (Bayern Munich), Mesut Ozil (Real Madrid), Lukas Podolski (Cologne), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich), Christian Traesch (VfB Stuttgart)

Strikers: Cacau (VfB Stuttgart), Mario Gomez (Bayern Munich), Miroslav Klose (Bayern Munich)

Why is Hummels not in ?.. I can't see anyone from this team better in his position

  • Nick_GWCB

Jogi doesn't seem to really fancy Hummels, though he mentioned that he was a future prospect in a recent interview. Excuse now is he is needed at U21, but he's too old so he wasn't called up there either. If he is not called up for the Sweden game then it'll be hard to see him for 2012.

Jansen is sick and out yet again. Löw even less surprisingly did not renominate anyone else – a bad move considering what happened last time when another injured defender meant we would have played only 3 real defenders at the back.

Very surprised Löw did not call up Helmes who is in good form.

On a side note and it's a bit early, but this is the formation I want to see against Sweden. The normal players can get some R&R or in Jansen's case not get injured or sick again again

    Helmes / Schürrle
    Marin Holtby Götze / Sam
    Bender Ballack
Schmelzer Hummels Höwedes Beck / Schwaab
    Adler

It'll have enough steel and experience to compensate for the explosive forward power. Especially want to see Sam, Holtby, Götze and Schürrle and of course Hummels. Of this group I want to see Sam who looks very dangerous on the ball.

Hummels is still 21 so he's still eligible for u21

  • Nick_GWCB

Adrion has decided to not use Hummels because he won't be available for selection in the future for U-21. Almost all of the older players were not selected including Hummels and will probably never be again considering their age.

I can understand Klose's inclusion since the guy does the job regardless of club form, but Gomez? Really?

Hi Nick, do you think Holtby could change his mind and rather than play for Germany he will choose England? I hope this is not an option for him because he is playing in a high level!

  • Nick_GWCB

Holtby said pretty much and his father has said pretty much he will play for Germany, unless for whatever reason he is ignored there is 0 chance he will play for England.
