Open Thread: Germany vs Poland

June 8th, 2008 | By: Jan | 7 Comments »

This weekend was reserved for some family reunion action, so I had no time to do any match build-up blogging. Actually, my whole Euro 2008 experience has so far been limited to watching a few minutes of the Switzerland – Czech Republic match, until my little cousin came in to ask whether we could switch to a show on the kids channels, which she ALWAYS watches…

But all matches are covered over at our Euro 2008 main page anyway, so I only need to remind you to

  1. check out the match preview Chris wrote.
  2. wait for the live blog to go live on the main page.
  3. check out the match preview Tomasz wrote for the Poland blog.

While all the “Ballack!!!!!”, “YES!!!”, “Noooooooo”, “Jens *!#?…” comments should go to our live blog, you may still want to use this thread for more specific Germany related comments. And once the match is over you could do your own post match analysis, review, recap thing here as well, while we busily assemble our own post match coverage in the meantime.

And before I leave to watch the match, here’s the line-up:
Lehmann
Jansen – Mertesacker – Metzelder – Lahm
Podolski – Ballack – Frings – Fritz
Gomez – Klose

Schweinsteiger on the bench…

Just as what I saw on the Eurosport website, Jan. Any idea why ‘Schweini’ is on the bench?

Anyone know whether Gomez can play on the wing? Because then we could see him interchanging with Podolski.

Yup. :) When Podolski scored the first goal, I almost heaved a sigh of relief. After the second one, my mind was more or less at ease. The fact that the 12-year winless streak has finally ended made me relieved. I was really tense at times when watching the match.

YaY! Germany won!! I was worried about this one. I only breathed a sigh of relief after Podolski’s 2nd. I thought Poland played very well and I just glad Germany got the 3 points. Couldn’t have asked for a better birthday present..lol. And what a nice start for Podolski.
