Michael Ballack addresses his team
Captain Michael Ballack has come forward and made some statements concerning his team. He is confident that his team can rediscover their form and has spoken to them about taking the Euro task forward and not living in the days of the World Cup.
Ballack acknowledged there were concerns but said there was no need to panic.
“I was asked about this back in January when it seemed almost all the team had some problem or other,” the midfielder told a news conference.
“Back then I said they would all get fitter as the tournament got closer but we’re two months on now and the situation is not actually that different.”
In truth, Germany’s regulars have seen a lot of bench time. Jens Lehmann has been benched at Arsenal. Lukas Podolski has taken to the bench since the arrival of Luca Toni at Bayern and Philipp Lahm, Marcell Jansen and Per Mertesacker have struggled this season. Miroslav Klose has seen a dip in form during the second half, but none of these things deters the confidence of Ballack.
“But we were in a similar situation before the last World Cup and I am optimistic that things will change.”
Tomorrow they will have a chance to prove themselves in their friendly against Switzerland.
