Germany take on Switzerland in Friendly

March 20th, 2008 | By: angela | No Comments »

Germany will take on Switzerland in an international friendly on Wednesday in Basil.  Joachim Low has called up Robert Huth to take place in this match.  Huth is just 24-years old and has won 17 caps for Germany.  His last match for Germany was in the 2006 World Cup 3-0 win over Ecuador, but has been plagued by injuries ever since.  Only recently (December) has he made his return to the Premiere League, but has won a spot as a first team regular.

Star striker Miroslav Klose is undoubtedly going to start, probably with Kevin Kuryani, but the competition will be stiff among Lukas Podolski, Mario Gomez and Stefan Kiessling.  Back in the line up are Clemens Fritz, Arne Friedrich and Marcell Jansen who were missing previously due to injury.

Germany have been drawn in Group B for this June’s EURO 2008 games with them set to take on co-hosts Austria, Croatia and Poland.

Lineup:
Goalkeepers:
Robert Enke (Hanover), Timo Hildebrand (Valencia/ESP), Jens Lehmann (Arsenal/ENG)

Defenders: Arne Friedrich (Hertha Berlin), Robert Huth (Middlesbrough/ENG), Marcell Jansen (Bayern Munich/GER), Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munich), Per Mertesacker (Werder Bremen), Heiko Westermann (Schalke 04)

Midfielders: Michael Ballack (Chelsea/ENG), Clemens Fritz (Werder Bremen), Thomas Hitzlsperger (Stuttgart), Simon Rolfes (Bayer Leverkusen), Bernd Schneider (Bayer Leverkusen), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich), Piotr Trochowski (Hamburg)

Forwards: Mario Gomez (Stuttgart), Stefan Kiessling (Bayer Leverkusen), Miroslav Klose (Bayern Munich), Kevin Kuranyi (Schalke 04), Lukas Podolski (Bayern Munich)
