Final Countdown: Tabloid says Ballack is playing.
The tabloids usually have their eyes and ears everywhere and when they don’t they pretend and invent. Yet, BILD currently scream on their front page “Jaaaaaaaa! Michael Ballack spielt!” which translates to “Jaaaaaaaa! Michael Ballack is playing!”. So, here’s a short bit of good news, or is it?
Afterall we will field a half fit Torsten Frings (fractured rib) and a half fit Michael Ballack (something with his calf) and should Ballack not be able to play on, we are faced with an early substitution. Look at it whichever way you want.

Jan, you are faster than me. I was just refreshing Europsport’s German site and it reported that too (they got their source from the Bild website). Back then when I was on the Bild website for the announcement of the final 23-man squad, it leaked the news that Jogi has dropped Hilderbrand even before it’s for real that Hilderbrand does not have a place in the squad.
‘Look at it whichever way you want.’
I rather look at it as something positive that Ballack will be able to play some part in the final. It has actually been bothering me since yesterday (it’s already past midnight and a Monday as well). Watching TV news reports here about Ballack’s having doubt for this match makes me worry even more. Until your post came about.

It actually might be better (if he is not fit) that he is there on the bench for moral support like he was against Costa Rica. On that note 4-2 with a Lahm opener!

Yup, Nick.
It has been confirmed from the UEFA website that Ballack is fit to start the match. So that means whatever Bild reported on its website is true.

Never trust Bild but Germany lost in the final in which the Spaniards displayed speed, tactics and world-class skills. Football at it’s best.
