Same score, different result

Against an undermanned U.S. squad Germany wins 4-1, scoring 3 goals in a 6 minute span late in the second half. Klinsmann started 3 men up front, including Lukas Podolski, whom I’d tipped to score the match-winner as a second half sub. Instead, he was substituted for Schweinsteiger, who promptly scored. Hope SoccerBob’s fingers will recover from all his liveblogging.

Germany can celebrate all it’s wants tonight, but they will wake up tomorow and still be a sub par team. An early exit at the World Cup. The fact is they still got crushed by Italy 4-1 and they still played a USA B-team to a scoreless first half. Germany is in trouble. The USA will wake up tomorrow and replace the B team with our real team. Our players will find the confidence they should have gotten in this game somewhere else along the way.

Bottom line … Germany advances past the first round, the U.S. doesn’t. Still, with the exception of the first 15 minutes and a 6 minute stretch in the second half, Germany looked pretty bad.
