We were privileged to have had such a fine keeper in our midst here in Portugal when he played at Benfica. Deeply saddened we offer our condolences to friends and family and hope he rests in peace in the comforting company of his baby daughter Lara who past away 3 years ago.

Holy …. I’m shocked. This is terrible. I really can’t believe it; it’s almost impossible to process. I’m so very, very sorry for his wife and infant daughter.

I’m shocked. I didn’t know too much about him but obviously something like this just takes all the words right out of you. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and teammates.

My deepest condolences go to his family and relatives. My cousin suffered from depression for 7 years after witnessing his father’s murder; he committed suicide in 2003 at just 21. I was the last one to speak to him and see him alive, and it was the worst moment of my life. Depression is a real silent killer and although we hear about it all the time, too many are not aware of its catastrophic effects on those affected by it. R.I.P Robert Enke.

My wife and I would like to offer our condolences to the Enke’s family and to the entire German nation for this terrible loss. Although we are thousands of miles away, we would like you all to know that we certainly hope that you all find peace in your hearts. I am an avid soccer fan and for sure will be thinking of the Enke’s family and the German nation with high regards now and during the upcoming world cup.
His soul is resting in peace and he will guide your soccer team to achieve greatness.

Terrible news. RIP Enke.

It’s very sad that depression is still one of the least understood and accepted illnesses. I’ve already come across comment threads taking the mick out of this tragedy.

I have been suffering from different degrees of depression over a (too) long period of time. I am fairly comfortable at present. But I feel close to being devastated by the circumstances around Enke’s death.

Please, you lucky folks to whom this is foreign territory, just buy it:
depression is hell. Not only for those immediately concerned, but also for
their relatives and friends. Be alert. Be lenient. Be helpful.
Thank you.
