Picture of the Match

I think if you could see his face, the expression would eminate the body language and the feelings would be palpable.  This was Bastian Schweinsteiger’s reaction after trying desperately to score without success.  The next Captain in the making perhaps?  I, personally, don’t think he’s ready to carry the burden on his own, but I  could see him being a co-captain with grooming for taking on the reigns when the time is right.

The one thing that I will say… Ballack’s days as Captain should be numbered.  He is past the time of leading this team.

We’re all with you on this one Schweini.

Good to have you back Angela. I’m not so sure I agree with you on this one though. We still need Ballack, but we can do without Westermann’s defending. Schweni is really not old enough, and unfortunately no one quite has Ballack’s authority on the team, least of all Jogi.

Thanks Nick. It’s good to be back and healthy finally!

I don’t think it’s a matter of not needing Ballack. I think he can still contribute, but I really don’t think his leadership of the team has been there. This year or last. I don’t think Schweini is ready for it either, but I could easily see him being groomed in a sort of co-captain position.

If you watch Schweinsteiger, you’ll notice he keeps his eyes on Ballack. He watches his reactions, he watches his play — he’s definitely taking notes and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he aspired to captain one day.
