Klinsmann puts pressure on the DFB (AKA, the German FA)

June 29th, 2006 | By: Harvey Morrell | 54 Comments »

Klinsmann warns about team’s future. The Germans are playing a more exciting style of soccer, that’s for sure. But will it continue? I certainly hope so.

Congratulations cheats ! Thank Michel for niot awarding 2 clear penalties too.

You think you can play football.
The first touch of your players is awful awkard to see.You have zero flair which is not unusual.

Celebrate for now but you will not be winning this cup or anything else for that matter in the future at club or international level.

And nice to see your Hitlerism lives on with your players swearing at Heinze and calling him Jewish ***.No wonder Maxi took to the punches.

Well, the game have finished. God rewarded the team with a better attitude and better goalkeepers. jeje… Regarding those of you supporting Brazil, let’s hope France eliminates them as happened in 1998, or they might just sold out to Germany in the final.

Barbar, I like your argument.
And ladies, you can call cheats as much as you want. The fact remains; Germany through and Argentina didn’t.

Argentina deserved to go out. Terrible substitutions from their manager. That was three games in-a-row Argies failed to win in 90 mins. So much for being the best team at the WC. Oh well nevermind, you can always go back to Buenos Airies and show off your trophy for beating S&M 6-0. ;-)

Well done Germany, played with a great never-say-die attitude and even an injured Ballack and deservedly won..

Well done Germany. I’d buy Lehmann drinks all night. Hopefully we’ll meet in Berlin on the 9th.

From a well satisfied England fan.
Cheers!

Argentina are the better team, sure. They have Ayala, Sorin, Tevez, Crespo, Saviola, Messi, and many other stars, most of whom play in the European leagues. The European clubs wouldn’t have recruited them if they didn’t have talent. The Germans, on the other hand, have only Lehmann who plays outside Germany. The only recognized stars of Germany, before this World Cup, were Ballack, Lehmann and Kahn. Kahn is now warming the benches. That leaves only two stars. But, and a very big BUT at that, the biggest star in the two teams today (and since June 9) was none other than Juergen Klinsmann. Look how he changed the German national team. And if you look at today’s qtr-final, just compare the substitutions Pekerman made with those that Klinsi made. Pekerman replaced Crespo with whom? A nobody called Cruz. He should have replaced him with Messi or Saviola to give Argentina more flair, or with a good defender. Look what Klinsi did. He took off Schneider and put on Odonkor who was a thorn to Argentina on the right flank. Klinsi replaced Klose with Neuville – another striker who scored against Poland in the group stages. It was Klinsmann who won the match for Germany. Heinze (who plays in my favourite club Manchester United) was lucky to not get any card today. The fouls he committed tonight were enough to earn him two yellow cards. Well done Germany! But hey… we’re all for a HEXA!!!!!!

I loved the game and I am rooting for Germany. But this is such a excellent class of soccer that it all comes down to who is having the better day. Argentina was just as likely to win the match as Germany but they did not and that is that. What I DO NOT understand is how horrible you all talk to each other. You all have one thing in common, you all love soccer. So can that not be enough for you to stop calling each other names and hating one another. If it were not for all these different teams and nationalites there would be no WORLD cup. There would just be you and your home team playing each other and that would SUCK. I love reading about critism of the players and how they played the game but PLEASE be nicer to each other for this is one of the only times in history where people of the world come together and play a game that is remarkable in everyway!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am not German in any way but watching this game today showed just how much a coach can influence a team’s performance if given time to create an effective and totally different playing style. German soccer used to be an absolute bore but these last games and this one specifically, was worth watching from beginning to end. I’ll take exception to the statement of German diving and the supposed unfair refereeing that favored Germany. I did not see that and as a more or less neutral observer have no reason to see it differently. If one analyzes the game via individual performances one can clearly see that the diving was unquestionably more severe on the Argentine side, one player actually received a card therefor, did he not? To see this game disrespected with characterless sniveling by the eventual losers is a disservice to the sport to the country and accomplishes nothing other than painting the Argentine fans with a brush of evil. It would be nice if the losers were more gracious and admitted that they ultimately lost to a team who just wanted it more and tried very convincingly to acchieve that win.
As with any game there were moments of less than appetizing football but on the whole, this was an entertaining battle between two teams full of gladiators not willing to surrender, what more can any fan ask????????
Like I said I have no favorite here and I enjoyed the game and thus I agree with the eventual outcome. We should all give a HUGE BRAVO to BOTH teams.

This was a game worth traveling 9000miles to see……..As a matter of fact the entire first round was a pleasure to watch even though the refereeing was very suspect and did seem geared in favor of European teams.
We enjoyed all the fans at the games we attended who applauded good efforts not only for their own particular teams but oppsing teams as well. We even partied with bunches of them even though language differences were a huge problem. One is constantly surprised what a smile and encouraging words can achieve with people who just miutes before saw their team win or loose. Only the Italian fans were beligerently offensive after they tied the USA by singing a dirty refrain aimed at Americans, I was not alone at being incredulous. I heard it, I was there. I’ll not repeat it here but let’s just say it involved one’s mums and personal creation. I thought it was really in bad taste and uncalled for.
That said, this is a world cup were some really good teams showed a beautiful game and fans showed a beautiful humanity………..and man oh man, isn’t that what Soccer, Fussball, Futebal, football is all about and damn the politics.

It is vital that Germany wears their away kit – RED to counter the strong wood element of semi-final day against Italy as all conditions favour Italy on that match day including match location and date and timing.

I like Germany for their never-say-die spirit. You deserve to play Brazil in the final. That would be the spectacle worth waiting for.

A friend of mine, whose soccer interests – typical for an American – hardly extend beyond his children’s little league play, offered an interesting perspective on Juergen’s style.

He was with Juergen & family at Lake Tahoe a while back and, while shopping for groceries at Safeway, asked for Juergen’s advice on coaching his twin’s little league team. (Believe it or not, this friend knew that Klinnsmann had played professional soccer but knew nothing about him beyond that!) Klinnsmann gave him no technical guidance whatsoever, but only gave him spiritual advice: make it fun for you and the kids, always praise, stay positive, etc.

Of course you could say “what other advice would Klinnsmann give a total football novice!” That would be a correct assessment of the situation. Later on, however, Juergen chastised so many football youth systems that emphasize winning over fun to the point of stamping out all the joy children get by simply playing the game.

This is the most fun I’ve ever had watching a German football team. The group games were fantastic; those games alone convinced me that this new “left wing” football is superior to the old “grind it out to 0-0 and hope for a PK win” style. Even in the 1-1 win yesterday, they kept pressing Argentina despite being effectively one man down with Ballack limping around. Even if they’d lost yesterday I would’ve stayed happy with this new style. Die Mannschaft has played well beyond its individual talent level. Klinnsmann has this bunch playing like a fun-seeking, cohesive unit and, from a football fan’s perspective, it’s a joy to watch!

After the match and the post-match dramas, this is all I can say to all Germany fans all over the world who is reading this:

Let’s sing..

Don’t cry out loud, Argentina
The truth is Germany beat you
All through my wild dreams
My expectations
Die Mannschaft promised
Don’t keep your distance
Have I said too much? There’s nothing more I can think of to say to you
But all you have to do is look at me to know that every word is true

*This is the revised-to-suit-the-occasion chorus of the famous Madonna’s song “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina”

California Deutscher – if anything, Left Wing football denotes a gung-ho attitude, rather than one of grinding out 0-0 draws. Right Wing refers to conservative, as in, to conserve your position of having not conceded.
