Germany blog gets a face lift… sort of
Or more accurately, a writer lift.. Jan, of the Bundesliga Offside fame, has agreed to come on board here at the Germany World Cup Blog with me and will be helping me out here. We hope to give you a more thorough blog and offer different perspectives to many of the upcoming things with the German National Team.
I would like to say thanks and welcome aboard to Jan. He’s sure to help get things going here!

Welcome Jan! It’s always good to have Jans onboard :-).
Just to get back and explain on the Hoeness thing. I’m not obsessed by it, but I grew up watching Hoeness play in Bayern and then ever since I see him on the bench. The coach wears a suit and Hoeness one of those padded sports-coats. As if he is the coach and the coach is the manager.
I remember when Johan Cruyff was technical adviser at Ajax and Leo Beenhakker was coach, nd Ajax was behind in the first half. JC came down from the stands to the bench to “advice” Leo what to do in the second half. This was all captured on telly and it was a heated discussion. Leo changed things as JC told him to, and Ajax won the game after 90 minutes.
Leo later was furious and said the biggest mistake in his career that he didn’t punch JC’s lights out.
Ever since, it’s quite sensitive in Holland for management to come down to the bench and in any way influence the team, individual players or listen in to the coaching. Some Dutch coaches even forbid management to visit the dressing rooms before the match, during half time or after the match. It’s very us and them. So, I was just wondering how Bayern manages to keep the coach (who ever it is) and Hoeness in a harmonic working relationship.
